IOF World Ranking Event (WRE) and Finnish WOC middle distance qualification

Competition rules and classes

Competition rules of the Finnish Orienteering Federation, IOF´s quidelines for World Ranking Events and instructions given on the competition day by the organizers shall be followed.

 

The rules of The Finnish Orienteering Federation are available on the website www.suunnistusliitto.fi.

 

Competition classes are M21E and W21E both with WRE status.

 

Estimated winning times in both classes are 35 min.

 

Punching system

The electronic system Emit will be used. Rental emit cards are available from the event organizer, fee 5 €. 

 

Entry fees and registration

Entries and payments have to be made primarily through IRMA service or alternatively, via email suunnistus.vasama@gmail.com. Entry fee is 45 €.

 

Entries and payments have to be made no later than Sunday 16th June 11.59 pm. No late entries allowed!

 

Emit card number must be included in the entry. The need for a rental Emit card has to be indicated in the entry. If Emit card number is missing, the organizer will reserve an Emit card and charge 5 €.

 

The IOF World Ranking system uses only the Latin alphabet from A to Z. It is very important for all runners to check that the information about them is correct. Please check the following: the spelling of your first and last name, birth year and nationality. If you find any mistakes, please report them via email: changes_AthleteData@orienteering.org. When reporting, make sure you add your complete birth date (day, month, year).

 

It is not possible to pay through Eventor. The bank details for entry fee payment without access to IRMA are as follows:

IOF ID

WRE athletes have to include their IOF IDs in their entry. Athletes who don’t yet have an IOF ID will get one by registering a user account in IOF Eventor: https://eventor.orienteering.org/Register

There is no old orienteering map of the area.

 

Embargoed area

Competitors are not allowed to train or enter the embargoed area before the competition. See picture 2 above.

 

Terrain

The competition terrain is located near Etelä-Konnevesi National park nearby Rautalampi 80 km southwest from Kuopio and 80 km northeast from Jyväskylä. The terrain consists of some rocky hills (max 50 meters) with some dangerous cliffs on the slopes. There are some green areas on the map. Runnability is moderate and terrain base is quite slow. There are only few paths on the map area.

 

GPS tracking

Some of the competitors are obliged to carry a GPS-tracking device handed out by the organizer.

 

Start times and final event details

The first start of the competition is at 11:00 am. A quarantine zone and pre-start, located in nearby event center, is explained in more detail in Bulletin 2 – will be published in June.

 

Food and beverage

There will be snacks and beverages at a moderate cost available at the event centre.

 

Guiding and venue

Competition centre will be located on a field in Hanhiniemi. Guiding to the competition centre starts from highway 69 between Rautalampi and Konnevesi .The guiding posts are on their places by Sunday 23rd June 2019 at 8:00 am.

 

Parking will be on a field near competition centre or on the edge of the road.

Weather and clothing

In June, the weather in middle Finland could be anything from warm and sunny (up to 30 degrees °C) to cold, windy and rainy(down to 10 °C). Competitors should be prepared for a changeable weather.

 

Visa requirements

According to current regulations, citizens of some countries must obtain a visa in order to enter Finland. Please check the following website for more information: http://www.formin.fi. Visas should be applied for at your closest Finnish Embassy. Please note that conditions of entry may change and all participants are advised to keep themselves updated on the current situation by consulting their local Finnish Embassy.
